Skill Refinement
Refining skills with skill stones in Slayer Legend - Cooldown, Time, and Heat stones, A and B tiers, elements, and how to tune a build with them.
Refinement Overview
Refinement is the fine-tuning layer of the skill system: skill stones that attach to your equipped skills and bend their mechanics - shorter cooldowns, longer buff durations, faster trigger conditions. Where leveling a skill makes its numbers bigger, refinement changes its rhythm, and rhythm is what separates a skill bar that fires in clean rotation from one that sits idle waiting on cooldowns. Late-game build optimization lives here.
The Three Stone Types
| Stone | Shape | Effect | Tier A | Tier B |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cooldown Stone | Triangle | Reduces the skill's cooldown | -4% | -7% |
| Time Stone | Square | Extends the skill's duration | +4% | +7% |
| Heat Stone | Diamond | Reduces the skill's required attack count | -4% | -7% |
Stones come in two tiers - A and B, with B the stronger roll - and each stone carries one of the four elements (Fire, Water, Wind, Earth), displayed in the element's color.
What "required attacks" means, since it's the least obvious of the three: several passives scale per swing - Speed Sword grants attack speed every 5 attacks, Earth's Will grants ATK every 7. A Heat Stone shrinks that counter, so the ramp climbs faster. On ramping builds that's not a minor tweak; it changes how quickly a fight reaches full power.
Matching Stones to Skills
The right stone depends entirely on what the skill is doing for you:
- Cooldown stones belong on your damage actives - your Fulgurous, your boss burst, your Meditation. More casts per minute is the most direct damage increase refinement offers, and on short-cooldown farming skills the effect compounds visibly.
- Time stones belong on duration buffs - Fire Sword, Flowing Blade, Agile, Rage. A buff that covers more of the fight is worth more than its tooltip suggests, especially when several buffs need to overlap for a burst window.
- Heat stones belong on per-attack ramping passives - Speed Sword, Earth's Will and their higher-grade cousins. Fast-attacking builds squeeze the most from these, since attack speed and reduced trigger counts multiply each other.
The mistake to avoid is treating stones as generic upgrades and slotting whatever's shiniest. A Time Stone on an instant-effect skill does nothing for you; a Cooldown Stone on an always-on passive is wasted. Read what the skill actually does, then pick the stone that bends its bottleneck.
Planning Your Setup
Refinement choices interact with everything else - your skill levels, your mastery awakenings, your attack speed from gear and buffs - so the honest way to optimize is to lay the whole configuration out and compare variants. That's exactly what the wiki's Skill Stone Builder is for: assemble your bar, slot stones, and share the setup with other players for feedback. The strongest refinement layouts in the community mostly came from exactly that loop - someone posted a build, someone else found a better stone arrangement, repeat.
As with every system this deep in the game, details evolve with updates - if you spot a mechanic this page has slightly wrong, fix it. Future Slayers thank you.
